NRHEG Secondary principal of 10 years, David Bunn, has resigned effective with the end of the 2022-23 school year on June 30. His resignation was accepted by the school board during its May 15 meeting.

In a letter written to staff, Bunn said that he has decided to “pursue new opportunities.” The change, he said, is “the right one for me at this stage of my life.” His wife, Jennifer, will continue as a teacher at the NRHEG Elementary site; his three children, twins Payton and Parker, and sixth-grader Sofia, will continue attending school in the district.

As for Bunn, his letter said he considers to weigh his options as the school year winds down. “I need a change in my life,” his letter told staff. “This is the best way to accomplish it.”

Every year the Star Eagle runs a special section honoring those who served in our annual Memorial Day edition of the paper. We are kindly requesting people call, email or write the Star Eagle to request who they would like to see pictured in this year’s edition.

Photos from last year will be used again!

Two 8’x 16’ murals will be installed at the two NRHEG school sites this week as part of a project funded by “Finly’s Wings at Work,” a local charity founded by Erin and Nick Budach in memory of their daughter, Finly, who would have been a member of this year’s sixth-grade class. Their non-profit organization receives donations from area individuals and groups, then channels them to benefit the students and communities of the NRHEG district. Donations include scholarships for graduating seniors, support for special events, school supplies, and much more.

The nearly identical murals center around an image of a panther and feature word art reminding students of the many positive personal traits their education at NRHEG is meant to help them nurture. At the elementary site, the mural will be installed in the cafeteria; at the secondary site it will be on a wall in the open area near the south entrance of the high school gym.

“It is a very exciting thing,” observes Prairie Fire Theatre director Brianna Homan. “Traveling around and teaching young actors about the power and challenges of theater.”

Fellow director Meredith Ayedelott says the key is to show and share the same level of energy with the performers as is hoped for from them. In addition to that:

“Everything has to be planned down to the minute.”

The two-hour performance of “The Wizard of Oz,” as interpreted by writers and composers Daniel Nordquist and Deborah Pick, featured nearly 80 NRHEG elementary students from kindergarten through sixth grade. Prairie Fire directors Ayedelott (as the scarecrow) and Homan (as the wicked witch) joined their young proteges on the stage.
