With the support of the city of New Richland, the Waseca County Animal Humane Society of Waseca will be conducting a trap/neuter/release (TNR) project for feral cats in New Richland the nights of Thursday, April 26, and Friday, April 27. Live traps will be baited with cat food in areas where feral cats are known to live. The traps will be baited but not set April 26 in order to get the cats comfortable with going inside them and eating the food. On the evening of April 27, the traps will be set in order to humanely trap the cats. The cats will be held at an indoor location until the morning of Saturday, April 28, when a Minnesota Spay Neuter Assistance Program (MNSNAP) mobile surgical van will arrive to spay, neuter, and vaccinate the cats for rabies and distemper. During surgery, veterinarians will notch one ear, so the cats will be easily identified as spayed/neutered/vaccinated cats.
Residents should keep any pet cats inside the nights when trapping is taking place. WCAHS asks that the traps not be disturbed in any way.
