Event to kick off Ellendale Days

The Ellendale Community Action Group, in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association Minnesota-North Dakota chapter, will sponsor the inaugural Ellendale Days 2.5K Run/Walk “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” on Thursday evening, June 22 starting at 6 p.m. in Ellendale.

Interested community members, families or friends of persons living with Alzheimer’s are invited to start teams to participate in this community event to help raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. Participants of all ages and abilities are invited to help reclaim the future for millions. All proceeds from this event will go towards the Minnesota-North Dakota Chapter for Alzheimer’s.

The Run/Walk will start at the Ellendale Municipal Liquor, going south to 8th Ave., head west to Crown Ridge (twice around) and then conclude back at the downtown area. An area “honorary family” has already been designated and they will be on hand to start the race. Participating teams may include families, businesses, church or school groups, community civic and/or youth groups.

Friends and Family Teams are at the heart of each Walk to End Alzheimer’s event. These individuals can come together as a way to fight back when a friend or family member has been affected by the disease. At the same time, team members can get involved in this community activity and move toward their personal health and wellness goals. Whether you want to walk or run, it does not matter as any effort from community members will be very much appreciated.

This event is co-sponsored by the ECAG volunteer group and The Alzheimer’s Association Minnesota-North Dakota which is part of the world’s leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

Area businesses are also contributing to sponsorship of this wonderful and worthwhile event. Volunteers are needed to help along the walk/run route and are urged to contact Allison Muilenburg at 507-684-3351. Participants and teams are asked to pre-register and donation forms may also picked up at Floors4U in Ellendale or by calling Allison at the above phone number. All donations for this event are tax deductible as both the ECAG and the Alzheimer’s Association are not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) organizations.

This event will be the “kick-off” event on June 22, for the Ellendale Days Summer Celebration and it is anticipated that this run/walk will become an annual event for Ellendale Days. It is hoped that this event will draw participants from both large and small area communities and that by doing this event, everyone can help make a difference in the lives of people impacted by Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

June is Alzeheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month and this is a perfect time to run/walk forward for our community and its citizens by participating in this event.
