Physics and chemistry teacher Tyler Macha comes to the district with prior experience; two years in Victoria, Texas, and five years in La Grange, Texas. Macha also taught college-level microbiology labs for two years during grad school at Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi, where he received both his BS in Biology and Life Science Education and his MS in Biology.

“I didn't initially want to be a teacher until I was in college,” Macha says, “but I knew of the impact teachers had in my life growing up, and I wanted to help the next generation in the same way.”

Originally from Waterloo, Iowa, he currently resides in Ellendale with his brother and their cat. When asked what led him to apply at NRHEG, Macha said, “I have family in the upper midwest. I also very much enjoy the culture and community within the district and it felt like a good fit for me.”

When he’s not at school, Macha enjoys riding his bicycle, gardening, watching good TV shows, and reading. He states that he could “definitely” talk for a long time about any branch of science because “I find them all fascinating.”

Macha expects that students in his class will work hard but will learn a lot and have some fun along the way. “My favorite parts of teaching over the years have always happened when students had ‘aha’ moments and things just clicked. Seeing the ‘light bulb’ come on is always fun to watch.” He says that he hopes his students will leave his classroom “knowing how to use the scientific thinking skills they learn and apply them to their daily lives outside of school.”
