Our vision as a school community is to be the school district of choice, inspiring excellence in academics, arts, and activities.  We strive to do this every day by empowering students with knowledge and skills to succeed.

As we prepare for the start of the 2017-2018 school year on September 5, I thought I would provide you with a few updates on what is happening in the School District.

US News and World Report Bronze Award

You may have heard that in May, the magazine U.S. News and World Report honored NRHEG High School with its Bronze Award as a high performing Minnesota public high school.  Criteria used to judge the schools include: student/teacher ratio, college readiness, college test preparedness, and achievement on the Minnesota state high school assessment.  This recognition is indicative of the work our PK-12 staff members do to ensure that all children learn at high levels.  It is also a compliment to our students and parents.  Earning national recognition is good for enrollment, good for our communities, and an affirmation of the work being accomplished by the School District.  For more about the award go to the following website:  http://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/ minnesota/rankings

Facility Assessment Update

In my February, 2017 article, I shared the Board of Education’s (BOE) decision to partner with ISG, an architecture and engineering firm based out of Mankato, to conduct a thorough assessment of all District facilities as the next step in responding to the June 2015 referendum vote as well as the results from the February 2106 community survey.  Since February, ISG has spent time in the District examining and assessing our facilities. ISG is in the process of finalizing their report for a presentation to the BOE in September. The BOE will then determine next steps on moving forward to identify both short- and long-term facility needs and improvements.

Welcome to our New Community Education Director!

We welcome Macy Whiteside as our new Community Education Director.  Macy follows Marilyn Dobberstein who retired June 30, 2017.  Macy comes to us after serving for several years in the Community Education and Recreation Department in Waseca.  She holds a BS degree in Psychology and a MS degree in Educational Leadership.  Welcome Macy!

Ellendale Softball Complex Parking and Access Improvements

Improvements are being made to the softball complex parking area as well as access to the fields.  Controlling the amount of water that pools in the parking area causing swampy conditions in a wet spring season as well as following a heavy rainfall has been a priority.  The District has had an interest in improving the pedestrian access as well as emergency vehicle access to the fields. The improvements are also intended to reduce the amount of pedestrian and vehicle traffic on the city street to the east of the parking area.

Teachers Report to Work August 28

Before students arrive on September 5, teachers report on Monday, August 28, for four days of inservice and planning for the start of the school year.  All employees gather for a “Kick-off Breakfast” on the 28th followed by staff development activities.

As always, I encourage you to contact me, the building principals, or the Board of Education members if you have any questions or comments pertaining to school district events, activities, or business.  I have listed below names, e-mail addresses, and phone numbers to facilitate your ability to contact us.  You may also find this information on our District website.  We hope you are as proud of our district as we are to serve the NRHEG school community.
