All you male readers beware: Genie has put in force her answer to my “man cave.” She calls it her “she shed.”
It is in two different rooms—one on the ground floor corner of the house with windows facing east and south, the other in the basement with a window facing north. The ground floor has yellow walls with floral print border, hardwood floors, and a white ceiling. The basement room is half-log looking halfway up with Wainscoting paneling the rest of the way to the ceiling, carpeted floor with a white ceiling and lots of light.
In the rooms are: her own TV, a fainting couch (chaise lounge), a sewing machine, a bookcase with books, a CD player for her background music, a basket of yarn, spools of thread, a desk for her cards and letters, necessary items for crocheting and knitting plus all the fabric with sewing notions, a day bed for when she gets tired, and a computer with printer and copier.
Last but not least is a sign by each room’s entrance: “Open by appointment only,” in big, bold letters.
For the third time, we have received a renewal billing for magazines purchased out of Harlan, IA. This time it was Reader’s Digest. We knew it was a scam as the return payment was an address in California. Readers beware as all payments are sent to Harlan, IA.
My third different grandson called from his hospital bed with a sob story asking for money. I asked if he was Mike, to which he said, “yes.” I replied, “You’re a scam ‘cause I don’t have a grandson.”

In asking Alexa, the new iPad will be available shortly on a street corner near you for half the price.
On Monday, Oct. 9, I arrived at the Albert Lea Post Office at about 7:30 a.m. right behind a young lady who tried to open the door, but it wouldn’t open. I tried; it wouldn’t open. We were confused. Do you know why we were left confused?
Genie and I toured the open house at St. John’s in Albert Lea. In summary—wow.
After this column, future columns will not be every week until April or May. We plan on deer hunting in November, ice fishing in December and January, Eelpout Festival in February, a trip to Arkansas in March, and a visit to our daughter and the outer banks in North Carolina in April.
