On a Monday evening, five good-looking Social Security-eligible chicks descended upon Perkins restaurant in Albert Lea. All five had been released from Albert Lea High School at the same time. The five of them knew a good deal when they saw one, namely the fee slice of pie after your meal at Perkins. Who were these five, somewhat rowdy chicks? Each one has their own handle (Mary, Carolyn, Kathy, Susan and Verlaine).

At the same time, there were seven even more rowdy Social Security-eligible Minnesotans taking advantage of the deal. They were so rowdy it was tough for the Perkins servers to get from one booth to another. Who were these magnificent seven? Their handles were Virgil, Arlene, Bob, Genie, Dennis, Judy and Glenda. At least two of them had put in time at New Richland High School and had been released. They also knew a good deal when they saw one.

Are you in the two of three human population who can snap their fingers or are you in the one of three human population who can’t?

Are you in the three out of three human population that can’t snap their ties? How about being in the three out of three human population that can’t wiggle 12 toes at the same time?

Maybe you’re one of the rare humans who can wiggle both ears at the same time.

The Earwig summer residents are back. Their favorite camping spot is outside our mailbox.

Two brothers, students at NRHEG, would like to see the inside of the old movie theater in New Richland. Can one of you readers do a random act of kindness? Spencer and Samuel can be reached at 507-256-4747. Thanks.

As an old Minnesota hunter-fisherman, I expect some changes, but not the drastic type as these two:

1. Between July 7-27 you weren’t allowed to use live bait while fishing at Mille Lacs Lake. It was illegal to fish walleyes that same period of time.

2. Pink is now a legal color of clothing to wear while hunting in Minnesota. This includes socks, long johns, any and all clothing.

Thought for the day: “The more you are gone, the more you appreciate home.”

P.S. Perkins now offers you a free slice of pie after a meal at their restaurant. You can do this as many times as you want on a Monday. The slice of pie can even be to go. French silk is my favorite.
