A great lady told me the following words of wisdom, “Once you lick the frosting off a cupcake, it becomes a muffin and muffins are healthy food.”

By the way, she’s not the brightest bulb in the chandelier. (I must admit, she most certainly qualifies for the definition of a shining example.)

Regarding the explosion of dandelions in our yard, Genie gave me three choices (I’m working on the third choice):

1. Move

2. Get the fussy neighbors to move

3. Eradicate the dandelions

We live on a corner lot in Albert Lea where it is easy to cross our lawn when going from one street to another. Every time I’ve mowed the lawn this spring I’ve found dog poop on the corner lawn. Genie and I have been watching to catch the dog in the act, but no luck. I then set up my trail camera facing the corner; result was a dog in the act with a lady holding a leash. The lady left with the dog without cleaning the mess from the lawn. I then have an easy-to-identify picture of a lady and her dog—the problem was, I couldn’t find out who she was.

After a few days a “light bulb” idea came to me. I put the picture in a clear Zip-Lock bag, nailed it to a stake and pushed it into the corner lawn ground with a note taped to the inside of the bag reading, “Smile, you were on candid camera.”

Net result—the Zip-Lock bag is gone, I have the stake, no more dog poop on our corner lawn.

Spring is the time when a young man’s fancy turns to love. This is also most certainly true in the bird world. We have two pairs of chickadees that come to the bird feeder every morning and shortly before dark for sunflower seeds. A pair of cardinals feed on the sunflower seeds at the same time in our hanging basket. The best part is when he feeds her one seed at a time as she chirps, “Seeding time, how sweet it is.”

F. R. O. G. of Central Freeborn Lutheran Church will be sponsoring a coach bus to the 24th Annual Lutheran Night at the Twins baseball game vs. the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday, August 8. The bus leaves at 4 p.m. from behind Slumberland in Albert Lea. There will be Deal or No Deal prizes (mostly baseball-related) on the bus to the game. The bus is parked nearby. Please let us know if your birthday is August 8 or if you want to go onto the field and lead in singing the National Anthem.

Reserved seating is home plate view with $45 per person cost paid in advance, no refunds. Each bus person will receive $5 cash back if the bus is full along with local coupons in an Albert Lea Convention and Visitors Bureau plastic bag. For reservations, call Bob and Genie Hanson at (507) 373-8655 or Wayne and Bev Indrelie at (507) 826-3267.

Will the Twins make the playoffs? I think they stand a good chance.
