This will be another “running of the words” column. Some will be fact, some will be fiction.

If you saw a picture of Randy Tuchtenhagen with a picture of a 38-inch northern in the Albert Lea Tribune and a picture of him with a 38-inch northern in the Star Eagle paper, Randy didn’t catch two northerns, he just took two selfies.

How about that? The 2016-17 commander of the Minnesota American Legion is a lady. Denise Milton of Bagley, “You go girl.”

Fall began on Thursday, September 22. Fall is my favorite time of the year. The only problem is it doesn’t last long enough.

Readers, take notice—you have until October 31, 2016 to clear your bucket list (the latest end of the world prediction). I’ll verify the reliability of the forecast on Nov. 1, 2016.

Road sign in Iowa: “Caution suicidal deer.”

September is National Senior Center Month. All senior centers are to be honored all month long.

Signs along the blacktop on the north side of St. Olaf Lake: “Drive like your kids live here.”

There is one sharp farmer in Waseca County. He is raising three crops in one field all at the same time (corn, weeds and beans).

We mailed two earwig bugs to Alex Knutson to help him get his master’s degree in entomology (the study of bugs) from NDSU at Fargo, North Dakota. Alex is a graduate of Albert Lea High School.

And now for the local sports scene: “The New Richland Cardinals held their opponents to a mere 10 yards on the ground, and went on to a 25-0 victory over Morristown there Friday. Allen Batt suffered a sprained ankle, but is coming along fine and should be ready to play next Friday.” (Ah, yes, what a great 1966 football team.)

We had to cancel our yearly week in the Big Horn Mountains above Sheridan, Wyoming the week after Labor Day. Genie had a bout of vertigo (dizziness) which she is now doctoring for (thus the reason for cancelling).

Rally Sunday at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church Sunday, Sept. 11 was a very special day. The Sunday School kids played games outside while the adults played Bingo in the fellowship hall. The rally was not only for Sunday School people, but also to raise funds to help defray the cost of repairing the geo-thermal breakdown. A noon meal was served in the fellowship hall, followed by an open house at Philip Morreim’s all afternoon and evening.

The total geo-thermal cost was $74,540.40. After the fundraiser the debt is about $15,000. The event was most certainly a bringing of the congregation together. If any of you want to contribute, contact me at (507) 373-8655 and I’ll see that your wish is accomplished. Thanks.
