This is another of the “running of the words” columns.

Four area people have the same item on their bucket list: They want to sing in front of at least 30,000 people. Lavoy Ebnet, Ruth Olson, Tom Wentzler and LeAnn Zerck are their names. Read this column in August to see if they accomplished their wish.

Have you noticed the daylight hours are slowly but surely getting lesser and lesser?

On my morning walk on the north side of Fountain Lake in Albert Lea, I have noticed a very pretty seashell in a small flower garden. What is so unusual is the small, hand-painted sign by the seashell that reads, “Take me, I take your picture.”

A sign by a boat landing at a lake read, “Littering is easy. It’s the fine that’s tough.”

The earwigs are back. They have taken up residence in our mailbox (there are at least six every time I get the mail). Do you suppose our new mailman is delivering them?

Speaking of mailboxes—with all the heat and moisture, if you don’t get your mail out of your mailbox shortly after delivery, the wood ants in Arkansas will get it (they eat paper).

Per Genie, to remove mildew from house siding, follow this recipe: mix Spic-and-Span with water according to the directions, use 3M sponge while wearing gloves. (If you want really clean fingernails with beat up fingers, don’t wear gloves.)

Trivia: Did you know the Rev. Graham developed graham crackers? (Not Billy, but Rev. Sylvester Graham.)

In doing my auxiliary volunteer job of recycling magazines at the Albert Lea Medical Center, I find a $10 bill on the floor. I report my finding to the two auxiliary members working at the coffee shop (Mary and Genie). A little later, a lady makes a purchase and exclaims that she had a $10 bill but can’t find it. To her astonishment, the two members announce they believe her as they give her a $10 to pay for the purchase. They then give the lady the proper change after collecting the ten from her.

Net result: The lady can’t believe what happened. Genie and Mary are beaming with pride at their random act of kindness, especially after they collected the ten from me. (If you have any doubts about this story, talk to Margaret.)

Genie and I watched the July 3rd parade while enjoying the food at the Zion Lutheran Church food stand. The NRHEG marching band was a crowd pleaser (the Albert Lea Tribune agreed).

We stopped at the popcorn stand prior to watching the July 4th fireworks from Fountain Lake Park in Albert Lea. I asked the attractive lady selling the popcorn if it was any good. She replied, “Yes.”

I asked why. She replied, “’Cause it was made by a lady from Clarks Grove.”

Clair Dahl, “Thanks for the memories.”
